Passing and Becoming of Age!
As I sat in Eastview Church of Christ in Americus Georgia at the Funeral of my Uncle Walter Burks-my mind was a taken back as I looked around and observed my siblings, cousins and other of how we had become of age! No more the old folks said this or that! We had become those old folks that we would refer about when we were younger! As listen to some of them I reflected back to days pass I could still catch in each voice a trace each of their childhood days still in them even though we all were old senior citizens now. I said all of that to say this! Life is very short and we have to make the best of it while we have the opportunities that God afford each of us. Because in the words of many Old Deacons down on their knees delivering prayer: We are all graveyard children! We know not the day or time or hour but that day will eventually come. We must try to be ready when that Old Deaf Angel comes a calling. My Uncle's Going Home Service was not a sad one because he lived to age 97! How could you be sad about someone that lived such a full life? Many would say he lived passed God's promise and lived part of someone else time.
I want to say to all our young people to please make the best of the time that God is giving you? Please do not waste one minute of it? Life is too important! And to short! You have so many more opportunities than we had when we were young! So do make excuses for not making it to next level in life! Some of us Old Senior Citizens are still having to rescue many of you and that is sad! You need to get up off your butts and get to work?
I want to close with one of my favorites Psalms! Psalms 121!
A Song of degrees.
1I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.I will…: or, Shall I lift up mine eyes to the hills? whence should my help come?
2My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
3He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
