Ten Rules Kids Won't Learn In School

Rules Kids Won't Learn in School

Rule #1. Life is not fair. Get used to it. The average teenager uses the phrase "it's not fair" 8.6 times a day. You got it from your parents, who said it so often you decided they must be the most idealistic generation ever. When they started hearing it from their own kids, they realized Rule #1.

Rule #2. The real world won't care as much about your self-esteem as your school does. It'll expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself. This may come as a shock. Usually, when inflated self-esteem meets reality, kids complain that it's not fair. (See Rule No. 1)

Rule #3. Sorry, you won't make $50,000 a year right out of high school. And you won't be a vice president or have a car phone either. You may even have to wear a uniform that doesn't have a Gap label.

Rule #4. If you think your teacher is tough, wait 'til you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure, so he tends to be a bit edgier. When you screw up, he is not going ask you how feel about it.

Rule #5. Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping. They called it opportunity. They weren't embarrassed making minimum wage either. They would have been embarrassed to sit around talking about Fifty Cent all weekend.

More Rules Kids Won't Learn in School

Rule #6. It's not your parents' fault. If you screw up, you are responsible. This is the flip side of "It's my life," and "You're not the boss of me," and other eloquent proclamations of your generation. When you turn 18, it's on your dime. Don't whine about it or you'll sound like a baby boomer.

Rule #7. Before you were born your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way paying your bills, cleaning up your room and listening to you tell them how idealistic you are. And by the way, before you save the rain forest from the blood-sucking parasites of your parents' generation try delousing the closet in your bedroom.

Rule #8. Life is not divided into semesters, and you don't get summers off. Nor even Easter break. They expect you to show up every day. For eight hours. And you don't get a new life every 10 weeks. It just goes on and on.

Rule #9. Television is not real life. Your life is not a sitcom. Your problems will not all be solved in 30 minutes, minus time for commercials. In real life, people actually have to leave the coffee shop to go to jobs. Your friends will not be perky or as polite as Jennifer Aniston.

Rule #10. Be nice to nerds. You may end up working for them. We all could.

Rule #11. Enjoy this while you can. Sure, parents are a pain, school's a bother, and life is depressing. But someday you'll realize how wonderful it was to be kid. Maybe you should start now.

Off My Chest!!!

Many you come to my blog (http://david-laster.blogspot.com/)week after week to select you numbers. And that is great! I want you to do that. But how much does it cost you to say an occasional-I like the numbers that you posted or won 290 off one of the numbers that you have posted. Or just simple thank you would suffice.
You know! I do not know what is going to happen to this country. I look around and I do not like what I see. I see a lot of short fat over weight people that have let them self go. And it is all because no one wants to work for what they get anymore everybody want things give to them on a silver patter without having to invest anything into it to get it. That is why when I look around I see a lot short fat people. We want even take a few minutes out of day to exercise to add years to our lives.
http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Anatomy-of-Obesity---Why-is-America-Becoming-Fat?&id=2218227
Technology is a good thing? But sometime, I have to wonder if we are not moving to fast with it. It is making our lives to easy and not allowing us the time to even think anymore. You look around and you see everyone got their eyes peel into a cell phone- texting. Our young people cannot even make a complete sentence anymore because they have gotten so accustom texting-to the point they cannot speak in regular English.
http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Language-of-Texting&id=6435994
I want everyone to stop this morning and go to a full length mirror and look at yourself and see if you like what you see. Look both inward and outward. If you like what you see then you are to be commended. That is great! If you do not- then let us all get to work re-shaping our lives into what we want it to be.
I have not really done a straight out blog in a while and I felt it this morning and I hope that I have not offended anyone? Let make this a great money winning day. I am about to do the Texas workout.

This for Virginia if you want to play them... (056-065-945-954)...but could be drawn in other states as well.

Same-Sex Marriages Are They Natural?

Same-Sex Marriages Are They Natural?

While some states have recognized and accepted same-sex marriage as been

acceptable; Georgia has not. Georgia is located in what some refer to as the Bible belt.
An area that is considered to be very faith based. I for one do not agree with same-sex marriages. I think that it under mines the basic principles of normal families and marriages. A marriage should be between a man and a woman as so states in our laws.
I have no problem with partners receiving each other benefits from mutual agreeable contracts such as insurance; however, I do not think that this union should be recognized as a natural marriage under our state and federal constitutional laws.
Recently there was a picture of Sir Elton John and his partner and there baby boy that they adopted. It did not look natural to me at all. It really looked very –very strange.
I wondered to myself how this child life will be once he is older. What questions will he asked once he sees normal families as compared to his own.
According to Bible same-sex unions are not recognized and acceptable in the eyes of God. It goes against His natural laws as recorded in the third chapter of Romans as written in the New Testament. I believe that we live in a free country with certain rights. I think that sometimes we accept things that are not in the best interest of the country as a whole. This only erodes our moral standards and well being.
Many of the rights that same-sex couple’s desire could be legalized without making it the same as traditional marriages. I think this would be the best approach rather than destroying the institution of marriage as we know it.

The Power of Social Media

3 ways to tap into
The Power of Social Media
Over 75% of consumers use social media in some form, so if you're not using it you may be missing out on a big opportunity. Getting involved doesn't have to be complicated. Here are three things you can do to get in the game.

Start a blog.
Blogs are easy to create and easy to maintain - with tools like wordpress or blogspot, you don't even need to consult a webmaster. The key is to create high-quality content that is relevant to your target audience. Keep it consistent and keep it real. Other than that, just have fun with it! Some suggestions for blog posts include:

Industry-specific tips and insights
Special offers or give-aways
Analysis of recent news items
Product tutorials
Humorous anecdotes
Interviews with employees, customers or partners

Start a Facebook page.
Facebook is one of the most popular sites in the world (along with Google). To get started, simply create a Facebook page where you can post updates, link to your blog articles, and receive feedback from your customers. As you post relevant content and interact with customers on your Facebook page, your fan base and your revenue will grow.

Post videos on YouTube.
If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, a video must be worth 1,000 pictures (and 1,000,000 words)! Plus videos get priority in search engine results and allow you to show a little personality. Start with a company overview or a product demonstration and build your video library from there.
If you implement these social media elements in your marketing, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the raving fans waiting for you.
To your success!

Lower Gas Prices Please???

Subject: Don't Buy Gas - new plan]

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!
I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next
summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action.
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we
wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas .
It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.08 at Arco and Costco for regular unleaded in Salem, Oregon and climbing every week.
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.
The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas!
And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.
But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.
If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce
their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies
will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of
Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to
at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers .
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten
friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE
HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all
you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail
out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential,
did you! Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I
suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

PS: when you forward this, please be considerate and delete all the email addresses that came with it! thanks!

It's Past Time For America To Overcome It's Addition To Oil!!!

Hello Everyone!!!

I wanted to touch base with you today
like I mentioned yesterday in my other blog post I just filled up at the local gas station and paid $3.35 per gallon for unleaded regular.
Here in Albany Georgia Gas was $3.05 on Tuesday $3.35 yesterday and Friday I seen it’s at $3.49
Gas prices are outrageous and they are projected to go over $5 a gallon soon. What are everyday people going to do???
http://david-laster.blogspot.com/

If Libyan unrest spreads, gas could reach $5
By Gary Strauss, USA TODAY
Updated 3d 23h ago |
431 | 11ShareReprints & Permissions
If political unrest in Libya spreads to other oil-rich countries and the ensuing chaos disrupts crude oil production, gas prices could hit $5 a gallon by peak summer driving season, industry analysts say.
http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/energy/2011-02-22-1Alibyagas22_ST_N.htm

When will we as Americans overcome our addition to Oil (gas)? This an addition that goes all the way back to the Carter Administration in the 70’s. To the time when we had people lining up at the pumps to buy gas. At that time President Carter tried to make us realizes how serious an addition we had. Now year later we all need to be in some type of rehab to overcome this addition.
Everyday as I drive around this city as well as other places I do not see people trying to break their addition. I still see many buying large SUV’s which they drive each and everyday. This only adds to the demand for more oil and oil products. The oil rich countries in the Middle East are our drug suppliers and feed our needs at the price which they control. I have also notice that many Americans do a great deal of unnecessary driving. Needless driving that is for no real purpose-just joy ridding. When will we ever come to our senses and realize that we are driving ourselves down a big deep black hole that has no bottom.
President Obama has put in place several plans that will eventually cut some of our addition but it is going to take years for these programs to have a lasting effect on our long standing addition to oil. I am taking about his Green Energy Programs. He is proposing spending 3.6 trillions over the next 10 years toward Green energy programs. You can read about at this link:

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2009/03/24/obama_unyielding_on_energy_proposals/

That is only part of it. The American people must do their part now to help curve our additions to Oil. In an article by Craig Severance , he discusses some of these issues:

It is us!
The lion's share of oil use in the U.S. is for transportation, and the lion's share of that is just to move ourselves around. The oil used for cars, pickups, and SUV's is for moving people. Komanoff found that 85 percent of the oil used for air travel was also for people, as opposed to air freight. All told, therefore, about 70 percent of transportation oil use (not counting the heavy pickups over 8,500 GVW included in the "medium to heavy trucks" category) is our use of vehicles to move our bodies from one place to another. That's almost half of total U.S. oil use. It really is us.
Good news and bad news
That's good news and bad news. The bad news is that it's personal -- we have to change what we drive.
The good news is that it's possible. It really doesn't take a Hummer or F250 to move people around. We all know someone with a Prius who gets 50 mpg and loves their car. That's about twice the average fuel economy of the U.S. passenger car and light truck fleet today, just using existing technology.
Super-efficient cars coming
Later this year, and not a moment too soon, GM will introduce its new Plug-In Hybrid Chevy Volt, and Nissan will begin delivering its all-electric car the Leaf. European automakers have also begun marketing efficient diesels to the American market. The sampling below shows a little of what is happening:

Go here read his entire article http://www.grist.org/people/Craig+Severance.

No doubt about it if we are to survive in the 21st century we are going have to overcome our addition to gas and oil. If not life as we know it will never be the same again. God only knows if we will be able to make it through.

Out Of The Box Job Hunting Tips

Renew or Cancel

Vol. 10, Issue 05 Job Search Edition January 31, 2011

Out of the box job hunting tips

Abridged: Business Insider

GREENWICH, NY -- According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate currently sits at 9.1 percent. If you are out of work this presents a problem because there is often a large quantity of qualified applicants seeking a given job. In these times, it's more important than ever to think outside of the box when applying for jobs. Here are some fresh creative job hunting tips for your 2011 job search:

Know what positions are available at a company, then focus your energy on trying to get that specific job. Use LinkedIn and use it well. It can be utilized as a great resource to connect with people at a company that you are interested in working for. Take a look at resume samples and improve your resume. Looking at resume samples often helps you to identify specific areas where you can improve your expertise or enhance the way you present yourself to potential employers.

Utilize Twitter and locate someone at any given company to look for jobs. Consider different types of jobs. You don't want to have tunnel vision. Check out niche job boards and career sites. Quite often, small businesses post job listings on these niche boards and smaller career sites. Attend an industry conference. These conferences can be gold for job seekers. In one conference room will be influential people from hundreds of companies directly in the niche that you are in. If you are creative about how you approach people - you can make a very solid contact which you can utilize when you are applying to that particular company later on.

What are behavioral interview questions?

Abridged: JobSearch About

NEW YORK, NY -- In a behavioral job interview, the company has decided what skills are needed in the person they hire and will ask questions to find out if the candidate has those skills. Behavioral interview questions will be more focused than traditional interview questions and you'll need to respond with special examples of how you handled situations in the workplace.

Review examples of the questions you may be asked during a behavioral job interview and think about how you would answer them. That way you'll be prepared ahead of time, rather than having to think of a response on the spot during the interview. Here are some behavior interview question samples:

Give an example of an occasion when you used logic to solve a problem. Give an example of a goal you reached and tell me how you achieved it. Describe a stressful situation at work and how you handled it. Tell me about how you worked effectively under pressure. How do you handle a challenge? Have you gone above and beyond the call of duty? If so, how? When you worked on multiple projects how did you prioritize? Give an example of how you set goals and achieve them. What do you do when your schedule is interrupted? Give an example of how you handle it. Did you ever not meet your goals? If so, Why?

Refresh your 2011 job search

Abridged: Robert Half International

TAMPA BAY, FL -- Now that we're into the new year, it might be time for you to refresh your search for a job. If you've been out of work for a while, Robert Half International offers these tips to help change things up.

Reconsider the chronological resume: A new format, such as one that highlights skills versus work history, will be more productive. Invest in new packaging: If an extended search in a particular industry or field isn't yielding results, focus on how you could repackage your transferable skills for a different industry or type of role. Switch up your networking: Look for different groups to join, and new ways to meet people outside of your usual circle.

Get a second opinion: Do you get lots of interviews, but no second calls? Ask a friend with good professional judgment to give you feedback on your interview performance. Or perhaps your resume hasn't landed you any interviews. Update your resume, then have a professional resume writer give you their ideas on how you can improve it. Expand your reach: Some parts of the country are recovering faster than others. If your search isn't working in a particular area, could you look at a move to a different city? Large staffing firms who have offices nationwide can connect you with jobs outside of your immediate locale.

Get the hiring manager's attention, Get the job

Abridged: Impact Hiring Solutions

FULLERTON, CA -- One of the major complaints by job candidates in today's changing job market is, "I send them my resume and they don't reply. Most won't even return my phone call." For the most part these candidates are correct. That doesn't mean it's right, it just means you are correct. Similar to most at manager level, when you are working, you are generally overwhelmed with things to do. So you have to prioritize. Some things are high priority and some things go on the low priority list. The low priority items may never get done.

Recruiters and Hiring Managers are really no different. They have to prioritize their day. Some things are high priority and other things are low priority. If you want to engage hiring managers and recruiters, your job when working with or contacting them should be to move up the priority list and catch their attention above the competition. If you can catch the hiring manager's attention, you have a much better chance of being invited to an interview and getting the job.

If a recruiter or hiring manager doesn't call you back, remember it isn't personal. Most recruiters are not trying to be rude. They only have so many hours, just like everyone else, and they are constantly juggling their priorities and working at managing their time too. If your search is stalled, consider a revised approach to your current job search efforts.

Get a better response rate and land more interviews

Staff Writer, The Career News

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- There's nothing easy about job searching. What's especially frustrating for many job seekers is a disappointing response rate. However, it's important to note that a job search is based on a numbers game. For example: If you get your resume in front of 1000 hiring managers, you should get 10-50 quality responses leading up to 5 interviews. If you don't pay attention to 'how' you are sending your resumes, your actions might only serve to put your resume in a pile with hundreds of others.

Consider a more focused approach to your job search. A search that increases the number and quality of responses by using a targeted list of industries and decision makers who are looking for people with your skills. This new type of search also employs an affordable delivery system that ensures your resume will be seen by the right person. Impossible?

Not at all! We recommend using a service called JobsByFax. This service is simple to use, effective and an affordable way to ensure a more focused and satisfying job search. You'll have instant access to information on thousands of companies and their decision makers. JobsByFax combines quality and quantity by faxing your resume to potential employers and recruiters. In fact, it's been statistically proven that sending 1000 resumes using JobsByFax can yield from 10 to 50 quality responses. JobsByFax will revitalize your job search and produce quality responses that lead to interviews and even job offers! To get a better response rate and land more interviews, go to: JobsByFax.

Key to enlarge your job search and stay visible

Abridged: Chicago Tribune

CHICAGO, IL -- Go to the coffee shop or the gym. Because employers haven't had enough employees for three years, managers are desperate to get work done. So bring a solution directly to them and not through human resources. Go to a Starbucks or gym in a neighborhood where managers live and start conversations, asking managers about their businesses, listening for their needs and offering solutions.

If you have a specific company or job in mind, try parking lots in office parks and warehouse districts. Hang out at conference hotels and choose seats on trains and in airports next to people with laptops. Bypass HR. People in HR do not know the job, the need or whether you fit, so you have to get to the decision-maker. Ask a contact on online networking site LinkedIn to pass your resume to a specific individual and aim for an introduction in a specific department. Or go hear a manager speak, exchange cards and follow up with a comment on the topic.

Use the Web for research so that you know the company and manager and where you might fit in. Learn industry buzzwords and hot buttons and use them in resumes and interviews. Follow the news. In community newspapers and trade publications, look for these topics because they suggest a need for new hires: A promotion or retirement, or a business relocating, acquiring a site or other business, expanding or getting a new contract. Get discovered. To stay visible while looking for work, consider volunteering in an area that might provide contacts or experience.
